Protect Your Phone, Wallet and Valuables
A Puja crowd is joyful but extremely dense. Pickpocketing can occur anywhere large crowds gather.
Keep the following precautions in mind:
- Keep your wallet in a secure front pocket or zipped bag.

Instead, select a manageable cluster and enjoy it.
Keep Some Time for the Neighbourhood
Don’t rush from one famous Puja to another.
Some of the most beautiful moments of Kolkata Puja happen between the headline pandals — dhaak performances, dhunuchi dancing, street decorations, traditional food stalls, children in new clothes and families enjoying the festival together.
Respect the Puja Environment
Remember that these are religious and community celebrations as well as artistic attractions.
- Follow barricades.
- Do not cross restricted areas for photographs.
- Follow volunteer instructions.
- Avoid blocking entrances while taking photographs.
- Do not use flash where prohibited.
- Keep the surroundings clean.
- Respect the rituals taking place inside the pandal.
13. The South Kolkata Pandal-Hopping Experience
A South Kolkata Durga Puja tour is not simply a checklist of pandals.
It is the experience of moving from one neighbourhood to another and watching Kolkata change every few hundred metres — from the artistic lanes of Gariahat to the traditional atmosphere of Ballygunge, from the spectacular installations around Deshapriya Park to the cultural storytelling of Chetla and Suruchi, and finally towards Jodhpur Park, Santoshpur, Rajdanga and Kasba.
Take your time.
Listen to the dhaak.
Look at the craftsmanship.
Watch the lights come alive after sunset.
And most importantly, travel safely with your family.
